Hold your leaders accountable

“And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Matt. 10:28

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind”. 2 Timothy 1:7

“If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand”. Mark 3:25

“He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters”. Matt. 12:30

“What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31

“You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine.” Titus 2:1

Hold your leaders accountable. Putting leaders on a very high pedestal is never wise – you are hurting both them, the flock and yourself. Placing leaders high on the pedestal of unaccountability will only lead them to pride. It leaves the door wide open for satan to do his work. “We do not wrestle against flesh and blood…”.

We are not doing ourselves or anyone any favors by submitting to leaders who are not submitting to the Lord, or who are completely perverting sound doctrine intentionally. Actually the Bible commands to “mark and avoid” such people. “Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them” (Romans 16:17).

Submission must ultimately be to GOD. Clearly, there are many leaders in the world who are NOT in the Lord, and many appear as “ministers of righteousness”. Jesus spoke and warned about such people in the Word. And, we are NOT to submit to them, but to the LORD. If we are submitting to false leaders that lead us to sin or do things contrary to the WORD, instead of the LORD, we are actually guilty of IDOLATRY. We must not submit to them, and the Bible never intended that we submit to falsity. As Christians, we must take into account the entire counsel of God and not focus in on only one scripture.

“So it is no wonder that his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. In the end they will get the punishment their wicked deeds deserve”. ~ 2 Corinthians 11:15

We are not to be “slaves of men”, but “slaves of God”. Being lovey-dovey and cuddly with people who are teaching falsities is not wise! We must never have so much grace that we forfeit Truth, or so much Truth that we forfeit grace!

Listen, it is not loving to neglect the Truth. Love and Truth go hand-in-hand. It is not an “offense” (although satan would cleverly say it is!) to bring the Truth of God’s Word into a situation. If it were an offense to bring God’s Truth, Jesus and the Apostle Paul and, well pretty much all of God’s people in the Bible, were big offenders! This simply is not true – it is a lie. Exposing error in doctrine and false teachings (which are often done intentionally to harm the flock and lead them astray) is part of the NORMAL Christian life. It is very abnormal and concerning for the Christian to be unconcerned with the topic of false teaching. If you take a look at the Bible, you will see that God’s people (like the Apostle Paul) constantly exposed error, and Paul even named the false teachers by name, publicly, on numerous occasions.

Hold your leaders accountable to the Word of God and “teaching Sound Doctrine”. Not only from the pulpit but in private as well. Remember the verse “…secretly introduce” false doctrine (2 Peter 2:1). “Doctrines of demons” are rarely announced from the pulpits. They are told in private much of the time. Demons are smart, not stupid. They know that the average Christian has enough brains to know when something is blatantly out-of-line with the Truth. Satan and his angels (demons) are very aware of scripture and Truth, and they use it all the time in a crafty way. This is why destructive teachings are introduced secretly, not apparently or in the open.

They are hidden behind a lot of “Truth” talk, “Unity” talk and all sorts of seemingly good things. They are doctrines which are wolves in sheep’s clothing – virtually unrecognizable but incredibly dangerous. I pray for Christians across the world to be alert. Let’s be alert, Christians, in these last days! Why does it matter!? Because Jesus said it does! Jesus spoke extensively about false teachings and false prophets. Much of Paul’s ministry was dedicated to exposing error. The Bible is full of these warnings, and I am just the messenger. I charge you to not take this lightly.

You can do it! We must not let anything, including personal comfort, financial security or popularity…to get in the way of obeying God and carrying out His divine will. Be a beacon of Truth, even if it’s hard. You may be saving souls my friend! Darkness hates light, and it even blames the light for what is revealed in the dark. It is not the light bulb’s fault that the dirty mess was in the room when the switch was turned on! Don’t turn out the light, keep it on. Thy Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path! (Psalm 119). Proverbs 11:30 says, “The fruit of a righteous person is a tree of life, and a winner of souls is wise”.

May the Lord bless you with His grace and Truth!
