Public Facebook page owner Mark Brown and Christi Armstrong teachings on divorce and marriage (Jesus Christ, The Bible, Global Scope Ministries): False or true? ‘Emotional Abuse’ grounds for divorce?

In the opinion of LVAE, fellow Christians need to be very alert with certain public teachers’ teachings and how they claim their teachings are “Biblical” and from Jesus Himself.  This ministry has no ill-will toward these teachers, but encourages caution (and extreme discernment and careful analysis) in accepting all their teachings as Biblical.
“Therefore what God has joined together, let man NOT separate.” Mark 10:9

Be very discerning with any pages run by “Global Scope Ministries” or by “Rev. Mark Brown“.  Mark Brown is married to writer Christi Brown (previously “Christi Armstrong” before her and Mark’s divorce).  He has several teachings that are allegedly for God, Jesus, prayers and so on. We must test everything to the Word of God alone.  Sometimes, according to the Bible, teachings can be “fine-sounding speeches”, that is, persuasive, or enticing words (Colossians 2:4) that would preach to “itching ears” unsound doctrine (2 Tim. 4:3), as well as “secretly introduced destructive heresies” (2 Peter 2:1). Anything that is contrary to Christ’s teaching is a false teaching.

He has also taught on YouTube, visible to the public, as well.  According to some research, LVAE believes these are a few of his pages.

  3. The following will express my opinion and will contribute to this public discussion of public teachers and their public statements:

Wondering why can’t people who get yelled at by their spouse (which is probably, every spouse at one time or another)… forgive when the spouse says sorry? Unforgiveness is also a sin and maybe even a bigger one than yelling occasionally. If I recall correctly, Mark Brown said basically on the public video interview from July 2013 that he agreed with Barbara that the poor treatment or what he calls “emotional abuse” from a spouse is “sin”. But…what about unforgiveness? Isn’t THAT a sin too??? Why don’t these people discuss the sin of unforgiveness or the sin of adultery?

Think about it. Isn’t adultery/marital unfaithfulness a much bigger sin than yelling or saying a rude thing? Jesus never said if your spouse is rude to you…. you can leave them. NEVER! He only said that the “unbeliever” may leave. “NOT” the believer. And either may leave if they are cheated on by the other. Totally twisted. All these people in the video interview claim to be “believers”. The scripture in the Bible was referring to “UNbelievers”. See 1 Cor. 7:15. That scripture simply does not apply to them! They are claiming to be Christians!

Of course suffering can come from inside the marriage, family and anywhere. Barbara conveyed the idea (not in these exact words) that Christian persecution/suffering is not meant to be in the marriage, and that there is a common misconception about this, but suffering is to come from government, unbelievers, etc. Really? Than why did Jesus say this…… “For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three” (Luke 12:52). That teaching cannot be backed up by Scripture, but it can be disproven by Scripture. Also…1 Peter 4:16.

In my opinion, the video interview is warped and twisted in so many ways….. a 180 degree twist from sound doctrine. It is my personal belief that people, especially new Christians, need to be warned of their teaching. Jesus spoke a lot about unforgiveness. It’s good to FORGIVE our spouse if they are having a bad day or something and when they apologize. If we don’t forgive our spouses, then how can God forgive us (Matthew 6:15)? How can we claim to even be Christians? The Bible says that in the last days there will be perilous times and men will be “unforgiving” (see below) and will have a “form of Godliness” (they will LOOK like Christians or sheep, see also Matthew 7:15). But, then He (GOD) commands us to “turn away” from them! Could it be that some people are unrepentant of their “sin of unforgiveness”?

    2 Timothy 3
    New King James Version (NKJV)
    Perilous Times and Perilous Men

“But KNOW THIS, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themSELVES, lovers of MONEY, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, UNHOLY, 3 UNLOVING, UNFORGIVING, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 TRAITORS, headstrong, haughty, lovers of PLEASURE RATHER than lovers of God, 5 having a FORM of godliness but DENYING its power. And from such people TURN AWAY! 6 For of this sort are those who CREEP into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, 7 always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8 Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith; 9 but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was.”

    ———-

Also, as if it weren’t already bad. Now they are teaching others online (not in these exact words) that it is okay to leave the spouse due to emotional abuse. Christi publicly claimed abuse from her ex husband – thousands of people saw this. Then after that, Mark Brown got divorced. This all played out publicly on Facebook. What was his excuse? Furthermore, what does the Bible say?

“And unto the married I command, yet not I, BUT THE LORD, Let NOT the wife depart from her husband: But IF she depart, let her REMAIN unmarried, or be RECONCILED to her husband: and let NOT the husband put away his wife.” (1 Cor. 7:10,11)

Isn’t their interview causing others to stumble into sin? It is so fine-sounding and persuasive, in my opinion, it would cause believers to stumble into adultery. 1 Cor. 6 has some strong words against adultery and cheating. Here is what God thinks when we teach others it’s okay to follow in our path of sin:

    Matthew 18:6,7

    NLV
“But if you cause one of these little ones who trusts in me to fall into sin, it would be better for you to have a large millstone tied around your neck and be drowned in the depths of the sea. What sorrow awaits the world, because it tempts people to sin. Temptations are inevitable, but what sorrow awaits the person who does the tempting.”

    ESV
“But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea. Woe to the world for temptations to sin! For it is necessary that temptations come, but woe to the one by whom the temptation comes!”

    2 Peter 2:12-22
    New King James Version (NKJV)

    Depravity of False Teachers

12 But these, like natural brute beasts made to be caught and destroyed, speak evil of the things they do not understand, and will utterly perish in their own corruption, 13 and will receive the wages of unrighteousness, as those who count it pleasure to carouse in the daytime. They are spots and blemishes, carousing in their own deceptions while they feast with you, 14 having eyes full of adultery and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls. They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children. 15 They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; 16 but he was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb donkey speaking with a man’s voice restrained the madness of the prophet.

17 These are wells without water, clouds carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.

    Deceptions of False Teachers

18 For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error. 19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage. 20 For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. 21 For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. 22 But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: “A dog returns to his own vomit,” and, “a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.”

It is worse slander to accuse someone of emotional abuse because they are self centered, neglectful of your feelings and tight with money… I mean financially abusive…. What??? Does everyone else not see how self serving this is and how NOT BIBLICALLY BASED this is? Mark Brown and Christi Armstrond… You can't pursue a relationship with a married person, commit adultery, and divorce someone for hurting your feelings or for even being a miserable person to be around. I for one would like to hear from the wife & husband of these two… I have been a long time follower of them both, but their posts are becoming more and more self serving. With the addition of their STOP movement for abused people… I just can't take it anymore. This woman was not abused and this man appears to have seduced her into thinking she was AND gave her"biblical" reason to cheat on her husband and divorce him. Now, as they play the professional victim and savior, I can't imagine what their families are being put through after having to endure this. I am done with them both… Now… How to disengage from the 100s of facebook pages they saturate with their excuses for "bettering themselves" on a daily basis!!!
