‘Speaking the Truth in Love’ by Mark G. Judy

It is becoming sadly apparent that there is a grave misunderstanding of what “speaking the truth in love” means.

Some think it means that they must “feel good” about your message. Or, that it means there is a warm fuzzy vibe to your words.

Any hint of sharpness or bluntness is surely, to them, proof that you are not “speaking the truth in love”. But, what did Paul say about this?

Titus 1:10-16; (scan these verses for their warm, “loving” content) “For there are many rebellious men, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, who must be silenced because they are upsetting whole families, teaching things they should not teach for the sake of sordid gain. One of themselves, a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.” This testimony is true. For this reason reprove them severely so that they may be sound in the faith, not paying attention to Jewish myths and commandments of men who turn away from the truth. To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their mind and their conscience are defiled. They profess to know God, but by their deeds they deny Him, being detestable and disobedient and worthless for any good deed.”

I believe the root of the problem is THIS: the vast majority of believers (including those who call themselves ministers) do not understand how JEALOUS God is for HIS CHURCH. Once you comprehend His Jealously, you will understand the tone of those He raises up to cleanse His Temple….it is an agonizing thing, to feel the Lord’s jealousy for His people, to carry it on the inside of you for years upon years, only to see His people drift further & further from Him…..while those who call you “unloving” do absolutely nothing themselves to shut the mouths of seducers & deceivers…..”For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy; for I betrothed you to one husband, so that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin.” {2nd Cor. 11:2}

“For you shall not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God” {Exodus 34:14}

“For the LORD your God in the midst of you is a jealous God”

{Deuteronomy 6:15}

“They made Him jealous with strange gods; With abominations they provoked Him to anger.”

{Deuteronomy 32:16}

“They have made Me jealous with what is not God; They have provoked Me to anger with their idols.”

{Deuteronomy 32:21}

Our problem in the Church is that we really do not believe this, that God is somehow “okay” with us serving Him AND our “idols”, our idols of men…….
